The Kachemak Bay Research Reserve has proposed an amendment to its Community Council Charter and seeks public review and comments. The proposed amendment may be viewed at kbaycouncil.wordpress.com or by contacting Stacey Buckelew at 226-4653. Kachemak Bay Birders hold an owling trip at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Wynn Nature Center parking lot, Mile 1.5 East Skyline Drive. Gary Lyon leads the trip. Bring a flashlight. Friendship Center

Friendship Center Adult Day Services is open 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Friday with extended hours for special situations. 

Homer Senior Citizens

Homer Senior Citizens lunch is open to seniors and their guests and is served 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday-Friday. The lunch menu for this week is: today, roast pork loin; Friday, oven fried shrimp; Monday, beef stroganoff; Tuesday, baked chicken parmesan; Wednesday, seafood Newburgh.

Strong Women classes at Homer Senior Citizens Recreation Room are 2-3 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Cost is $3 for members and $6 for nonmembers per class.

The Caregiver Support Group meets from 2-3:30 p.m. every-other Thursday in the senior center dining room. Kachemak Bay Campus

“Sound and Imagery in Contemporary Poetry” with poet Erin Coughlin Hollowell runs today through Nov. 7. The Kenai Peninsula College Council meets at 6 p.m. today. The meeting is open to the public. Pratt Museum

The museum is open noon-5 p.m. Tuesday-Sunday; closed Mondays. “Inspired by Place,” selected art from the museum collection, is on exhibit downstairs in the Contemporary Art Gallery through December. 

Art for “Ritz at the Moulin Rouge” remains on display through Oct. 30. The Ritz Art and Experience Auction is the Pratt Museum’s annual gala fundraiser, to be held Nov. 2 at Wasabi’s. “Ritz at the Moulin Rouge” features French cuisine with music provided by the Moulin Rouge Diamond Dogs. The band, coming together just for the Ritz, is fronted by jazz trumpeter Yngvil Vatn Guttu and Anchorage Symphony violinist Lena Lukina. Tickets are now on sale for $100 at the Pratt Museum and Homer Bookstore. Businesses are invited to donate to the 2013 Ritz. The deadline for business donations is Friday. Play Dates led by Education Director Ryjil Christianson are held in the Marine Gallery from 10-11 a.m. Friday. Parents and caregivers can bring in babies and toddlers for an enjoyable hour of hands on activities. 

R.E.C. Room

The REC Room (a Youth Resource & Enrichment Co-Op) offers new activities for the 2013-2014 School Year. Free programs include instruction on software installation and customization, digital music production, fresh and organic cooking, gardening and slam poetry. The REC Room provides teens ages 12-18 with a safe space to hang out after school and get connected with positive resources, activities and programs available for youth in our community. It offers computers and Wi-Fi for homework, guitars, X Box Kinect, games, darts, rave gloves, movies, art supplies and more.

A program of Kachemak Bay Family Planning Clinic, the REC Room is always staffed by a program manager. HMS students can now ride Bus 65 for drop off at the REC Room. Call for details. South Peninsula Hospital

The annual Rotary Health Fair is 7:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Nov. 2 at Homer High School. The fair is sponsored by Homer Kachemak Bay Rotary Club, in partnership with South Peninsula Hospital. The purpose of the fair is to promote individual wellness and provide free and inexpensive information and screenings related to health. The theme is “It’s Your Life … Take a Day to Be Well.” 

Appointments for reduced-rate wellness screenings are available now. As part of the health fair, comprehensive blood analysis is available for only $40. In addition to the basic wellness test, additional tests available for purchase include prostate, thyroid, cardiac, vitamin D and hemoglobin A1C. These tests are offered by appointment at the fair, or before the fair at the hospital with the results available for pickup at the fair. Appointments are offered from Oct. 14-Nov. 1 at the hospital. 

Make an appointment on line at www.sphosp.org. Payment must be made by cash or check at time of the test, and checks can be made to Rotary. Setting an appointment for your blood draw is required and offered at www.sphosp.org and at the following locations and times: Homer Senior Center, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Oct. 17; Safeway, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 22. 

No food or drink, only water, should be consumed 10-12 hours prior to the test. In all cases prescription medication should be taken and diabetics should not fast.
