The Kachemak Bay Birders’ next trip is Saturday to Eagle Lake and the Jaeger Bog. Meet at 8:30 a.m. at the Alaska Islands and Ocean Visitor Center parking lot to carpool or 9 a.m. at the Eagle Lake Trailhead. Expect some bad roads, wet walking conditions and mosquitoes. Bring binoculars, field guides and scope if you have them. Possible birds are Pacific loon and ring-necked duck at the lake, songbirds, parasitic jaeger at the bog and raptors. A 5-minute film, “Homeless in Homer,” shows at 6 p.m. June 11 at the Homer Theatre. The film was made by local teen group Lead On! in partnership with White Stag Productions, South Peninsula Haven House, the R.E.C. Room, Homer Prevention Project and The Center. The film also is the launch for YRG, the Youth Resource Guide, www.homeryrg.org, an online resource guide. A pane discussion and community conversation follows the film. Burn permits are required year round inside Homer city limits and can be picked up at the Homer Volunteer Fire Department during normal business hours, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday. Burn permits are required from April 1-Sept. 1 anywhere outside Homer city limits and can be acquired from the Alaska Division of Forestry at www.forestry.alaska.gov/burn.

Friendship Center

Friendship Center Adult Day Services is open between the hours of 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Friday with extended hours for special situations. Programs are offered daily, including story time, crafts and musical performances. Call 235-4556.

Homer Senior Citizens

Homer Senior Citizens lunch is open to seniors and guests and is served noon-1:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. The lunch menu for this week is: today, roast turkey with mashed potatoes and gravy; Friday, grilled rockfish; Monday, roasted chicken; Tuesday, pork paprika; Wednesday beef tacos; next Thursday, country style roast pork.

Pratt Museum

Summer gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week. Business offices are open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday.

“Watermark,” a dual exhibit by Asia Freeman and Michael Walsh, opens with a reception from 5-7 p.m. today. Freeman, who works in oil paints, and Walsh,who works in digital video, have shared a studio for several years and also share a sensual language of mark making with a focus on water as media and muse. “Watermark” reamins on exhibit through Aug. 2.

The Pratt is showing a series of prototype exhibits in the lower galleries. These are works in progress and opportunities to collect feedback on text, design and interactive components. There are questionnaires available to provide direct input. Currently, visitors can see a small prototype, “Community Connectors – Radios, Telephones and Pathways.”

The Pratt holds its Historic Harbor Tours from 3 to 4:30 p.m. every Thursday and Friday, June 4 through September. Meet at the wheelhouse in front of the Salty Dawg Saloon. on the Homer Spit. Walk along the historic Homer harbor docks and learn about the boats, fishing and some of the characters that shaped Homer’s vibrant maritime history. The tour is $10 per person.

Road Construction

Expect delays on these lower Kenai Peninsula road projects:

• Sterling Highway Mile 135 to 137 improvements: Road construction continues through mid-September. Expect single-lane traffic, 10-minute delays, flagging and pilot car operations on the Sterling Highway 24 hours a day, Monday through Saturday through August.

• Homer rehabilitation, East End Road from Kachemak Drive to Waterman Road: Road construction continues through July. Expect heavy equipment and construction workers on the shoulder from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
