Fencing instruction and training for ages 13 to adult is 5:45-8 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays in the Homer High School commons; Homer Community Recreation sponsors the class. A liability waiver signature is required. Beginners are always welcome and encouraged. Come fence a few times for free before registering. Equipment is provided for beginners, but wear sneakers. The U.S. Navy holds a public meeting Wednesday at the Best Western Bidarka Inn to discuss a draft Environmental Impact Statement/Overseas Environmental Impact Statement on potential impacts from military training activities in the Gulf of Alaska Temporary Maritime Activities Area. An open house information session is 5-8 p.m. with a Navy presentation at 6:30 p.m. An oral comment session follows the Navy presentation. Written and oral comments will be accepted at the meeting. Copies of the draft EIS are available at the Homer Public Library or at the project website, www.GOAEIS.com. The Navy accepts comments until Oct. 20. Written comments may be submitted through the website, in person at the meeting or by mail to Naval Facilities Engineering Command Northwest, Attention Ms. Amy Burt, GOA Supplemental EIS/OEIS Project Manager, 1101 Tautog Circle, Suite 203, Silverdale, WA 98315-1101.
The Prince William Sound Regional Citizens’ Advisory Council will hold its regular fall board meeting in Homer this year. The council will meet at the Islands and Ocean Visitor Center from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Sept. 25 and 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Sept. 26. The public is invited to attend. Friendship Center
Friendship Center Adult Day Services is open 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Friday with extended hours for special situations. Special programs are offered daily, including story time, crafts and musical performances. For more information, call 235-4556.
Homer Senior Citizens
Homer Senior Citizens lunch is open to seniors and guests and is served 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday-Friday. The lunch menu for this week is: today, baked ham; Friday, sockeye salmon; Monday, baked chicken teriyaki; Tuesday, lasagna; Wednesday, curried chicken.
Strong Women classes are 1-2 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the Homer Senior Center. The cost is $3 for members and $6 for nonmembers per class.
Zumba Gold classes with Maria are 11 a.m.-noon Tuesdays and 1:30-2:30 p.m. Thursdays at the Homer Senior Center. The cost per class is $4 members, $6 nonmembers.

Homer artist Jo Going’s presents “Reliquary,” a solo exhibit that is a mixed media installation featuring found animal bones collected by the artist from the Arctic tundra over 29 years. “Reliquary” is on view through Sept. 21.
