Homer is a city near the southern tip of Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula, 218 miles southwest of Anchorage. As Homer’s newspaper, we keep the community informed about local news, sports, peninsula opinions, fishing and tourism. We are available online or in print.
Homer is described as a “cosmic hamlet by the sea.” It has evolved from a coal mining town to a vibrant regional economic center. Fishing, Eco-Adventure tourism, and other marine trades are the dominant industries. Homer also boasts an energetic arts scene with many cultural attractions such as museums, art galleries, and restaurants.
Due to the sheltering influence of the Chugach Mountains to the southeast, Homer enjoys relatively moderate weather. With only about 25 inches of rainfall annually, Homer has become popular as a retirement community and locale for summer homes.
