CIRCAC meets Friday at Land’s End Resort

The Cook Inlet Regional Citizens Advisory Council board of directors meeting starts at 9 a.m. Friday at Land’s End Resort in Homer and runs to 3 p.m. The meeting is open to the public.

The public has an opportunity to comment at the start of the meeting.

Agenda items include:

• 9:20 a.m.: Presentations by U.S. Coast Guard Capt. Sean Mackenzie, commander, Sector Anchorge; Tim Robertson and Sierra Fletcher, Nuka Research, Cook Inlet Pipeline Study; Dan Paulito and Michelle Brown, Hilcorp, Cross-Inlet Extension; Kim Powell and Donna Aderhold, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Gulf Watch Alaska Monitoring Program.

• 11:10 a.m.: Executive Committee Report.

• 11:35 a.m.: Executive Director’s Report

CIRCAC represents citizens of Cook Inlet in promoting environmentally safe marine transportation and oil facility operations in Cook Inlet.

HEA members will see rate descrease

Homer Electric Association (HEA) members will likely see a rate decrease effective Oct. 1, 2017. HEA has submitted a filing with the Regulatory Commission of Alaska (RCA) that decreases the Cost of Power Adjustment (COPA) from $0.07205 per kilowatt-hour to $0.06805 per kilowatt-hour. That will result in a savings of about 40 cents per 100 kilowatt hours.

COPA reflects the cost of the fuel purchased by HEA to generate electricity and is adjusted on a quarterly basis. The new rate will mean a decrease of $2.20 per month for the average HEA residential member using 550-kilowatt hours a month.

Pending approval from the Regulatory Commission of Alaska, the rate change will be effective Oct. 1, 2017.
