Winners selected in amateur photo contest

Winning photos and photographers in Nomar’s 2013 Shorebird Festival Amateur Photo Contest have been selected:

Best of show, $300: Michael Halstead of Homer;

Alaska wildlife, first place, $50: Michael Halstead of Homer;

Alaska wildlife, honorable mention, ribbon: Lauren Painter of Homer;

Alaska scenic, first place, $50: Katlyn Haas of Homer;

Alaska scenic, honorable mention, ribbon: Lauren Painter of Homer;

Alaska human interest, first place, $50: Lin Aschenbach of Fritz Creek;

Alaska human interest, honorable mention, ribbon: Wendy Wayne of Homer.

Amateur photographers are defined as those earning less than half of their income form the sale of their photos. The entries, including color and black and white, had to be taken in Alaska and owned by the entrants. Halstead’s grand prize photo now becomes the property of Nomar for permanent display in the store.

 

Micciche to speak at Wednesday, May 15, chamber lunch

Sen. Peter Micciche will be the guest speaker at the next Homer Chamber of Commerce luncheon. The luncheon will begin at noon Wednesday at the Homer Elks Lodge. Those planning to attend are asked to RSVP by Friday to 235-7740. Cost is $14 for chamber members and $16 for non-members. The luncheon is open to the public.

It had previously been announced that the luncheon would be on Tuesday.
