Youngblood recognized
for her volunteer efforts
Hours of volunteering at various real estate events and her work in the Homer area recently earned First National Bank Alaska Home Loan Specialist Karrie Youngblood special recognition.
Late last month, the Kachemak Board of Realtors named Youngblood its “affiliate of the year” for 2012.
“It’s a great tribute to Karrie to be recognized as someone who stands above others and really helps people out,” First National Assistant Vice President Marilyn Pipkin said. “I’m very proud of her.”
Youngblood is a self-described “military brat.” She arrived in Alaska more than 20 years ago with her husband, who was stationed at Elmendorf Air Force Base. The couple soon made Homer their home.
“It’s a privilege to come to work in such a beautiful setting,” Youngblood said. “I love my community.”

Homer chamber’s annual
meeting set for Jan. 22
The Homer Chamber of Commerce will have its 2013 annual meeting Jan. 22 at Land’s End Resort. The meeting starts at noon.
The chamber reminds shoppers that Week 8 of the Homer Winter Shopping Derby ended and another 26 tickets were sold. The top seller was Save-U-More with 13 tickets sold. The Week 8 winner is Mark Speakman, who won a $30 gift certificate from Cosmic Kitchen
As an incentive to sell tickets, the business that sells the most tickets gets 100 Homer Bucks; the person who sells the winning ticket also gets 100 Homer Bucks.
The business who sells the most tickets will get to host the Homer Winter Shopping Derby Official Drawing. The next ticket pick-up day will be Monday.

Nominations sought for
Alaska’s Top 40 Under 40
Nominations are now being accepted for Alaska’s Top 40 Under 40, sponsored by the Alaska Journal of Commerce. The event recognizes the state’s top young professionals younger than age 40 who have demonstrated professional excellence and a commitment to their community.
The deadline for the AJOC to receive entries is Jan. 15.
Criteria for selection:
•Nominees must be younger than age 40 before Jan. 1, 2013;
•Nominees must live and work in Alaska year-round;
•Nominees must have demonstrated professional excellence in their field;
•Nominees must display a commitment to the community.

The Top Forty Under 40 recipients will be recognized during an awards luncheon on April 5 at the Hotel Captain Cook and in a special publication of the Alaska Journal of Commerce.
