Dennis Hofeling, 65, died Dec. 9, 2013. A memorial for Dennis is 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013, at the Homer Elks Lodge. All are welcome.
Dennis was born May 17, 1948, in Beatrice, Neb. He traveled the Alaska Highway with his parents Hank and Betty Hofeling and his sister Vicki in 1953. Dennis always wanted a brother but that never materialized; instead four more sisters arrived. In the early 1960s, Rick Wright, adopted brother, came to live with the family and Dennis got his wish.
In 1965, Dennis joined the U.S. Navy to serve his country for four years, and was honorably discharged in 1969. He served in Italy and Greece.
In the 1970s he worked at the Alaska Skill Center in Seward and was in charge of security and the rec center.
In the late 1970s the Hofeling family moved to Homer and Dennis soon followed, where he resided until he passed away.
“Dennis was a kindred soul that didn’t want for much. He was always ready with a comment to make you smile. He will be greatly missed; his family and friends loved him dearly,” his family said.
Dennis was preceded in death by his father, Henry “Hank” Hofeling, and his son, Ryder Hofeling.
He is survived by his mother, Betty Hofeling; five sisters, Vicki Brown, Kathy Johnson, Connie Geagel, Sandra Cooper and Toy Bairamis; and his brother, Rick Wright.
