Halibut Cove artist Annette Bellamy has a show, “Floating,” opening Friday at the Anchorage Museum at the Rasmuson Center. A First Friday reception is 7 to 9 p.m. at the museum. Bellamy’s work includes several large ceramic works as well as some works in fish skin. Her show is on exhibit through Nov. 10.
“(Bellamy’s) suspended constructions hint at life on the water,” the museum said in a press release. “One installation made from small boat forms floats and gently moves, suggesting balance, currents and invisible lines of connection. A series of oars are symbolic of how we navigate, not just through the water, but also through relationships and transitions. For the piece ‘Out of Water,’ Bellamy abandons clay for fish skin, sewing together a quilt piece by piece from the material of her livelihood. It’s this authenticity that makes Bellamy’s work so tangible and tactile.”
