Hospice of Homer needs volunteers: a public relations volunteer to do newspaper/radio announcements, electronic invitations, etc.; a fundraising volunteer including someone who will manage and administer the selling of Sees Candy; a volunteer to do office cleaning; and a board member. Hospice also has a paid staff positon open,closing date Jan. 29.

Kachemak Bay Campus Adult Education Program is looking for volunteers to read with adults who are working to improve literacy skills. This might be as casual as reading a book or story together, or might include helping the student with classwork. Conversation partners are needed for English language learners — meet for tea or coffee and talk. You and your student will decide how often and when you will meet.

KBBI is looking for help with resources for an extended emergency response effort in case of a disaster. The items will be located at the transmitter site and at KBBI studios. The following items are needed: flashlights (LED, hand-cranked ones are the best); first aid kits; emergency lighting to work hands free (propane or battery); small cook stove and small propane cylinders; flannel cotton sheets to cover air intakes (used OK, but no holes); two port-a-pottie seats and clean 5 gallon buckets; surveyor lathe (used but clean); paper plates and bowls; plastic dining utensils; warm gloves and clothing.
