Seward to celebrate holidays with fireworks, decorating contest

Fireworks are set for Dec. 31 at 8 p.m.

The Seward Chamber of Commerce is marking the end of the year with a New Year’s Eve fireworks display and a Holiday Lights Contest.

Fireworks are set for Dec. 31 at 8 p.m., per a release from the chamber on Wednesday. The fireworks will be launched from Seward Waterfront Park to be viewed against a backdrop of Resurrection Bay.

The Holiday Lights Contest is accepting submissions through Dec. 18, with categories for businesses and homes, Seward Chamber Communications Coordinator Ally Burdett said Wednesday.

After submissions are received, an interactive map will be launched guiding people to the displays around Seward. People can vote through Dec. 31, and the winners in both categories will be named on Jan. 1 — with $250 gift cards as their prize.

For more information about both events, or to enter the contest, find “Seward Chamber of Commerce” on Facebook or “sewardchamber” on Instagram.
