The Homer 2024 Ski and Winter Gear Swap will take place Friday, Nov. 15 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the Homer High School Commons. The ski swap is a free annual opportunity to trade or sell winter gear, equipment and clothing with members of the community.
On the same day, the local edition of the Mountainfilm documentary film festival will begin at 7 p.m. Additionally, the Homer High ski team will be providing ski waxing services at the event as a fundraiser for the team. Homer’s local HOWL, Homer Outdoor Wilderness Leadership, will be providing soup and dessert as a fundraiser to accommodate a team trip to Washington, D.C.
Mountainfilm, held in Telluride, Colorado, showcases nonfiction stories about climbing, the environment, and cultural, political and social justice issues. It has been held since 1979. The “on tour” component is shortened, “sharing the year’s most inspiring short films,” according to the website.
The event takes place in communities worldwide and in addition to Homer the fall event will be touring the country.
There will be eight short films included in the show this year. Country visions will include Mexico, Afghanistan, Zambia, Japan and the U.S., as well as a variety of outdoor recreation and travel resources.
The showing will take place in the Mariner Theatre and will last approximately an hour and a half. The cost to attend is $10. Tickets will be available only at the door.
More information on all features of the evening event is available from the Homer Recreation office located in the commons of the high school, the City of Homer website or by calling 907-235-6090.
