BEST SAFE SITTER BET: Youth in grades 6-8 are invited to a Safe Sitter course at South Peninsula Hospital, in Conference Room 3, on Oct. 11-12 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Safe Sitter is a nationally recognized, medically oriented course aimed at teaching youth the skills necessary to safely babysit and/or watch siblings at home. The program teaches youth how to handle major and minor medical emergencies and proper child care skills. Topics include injury prevention, online safety, child first aid, basic child care such as feeding and diapering, and more. This course is designed to empower young adolescents with the confidence and skills necessary to handle various situations that may arise while caring for children. BEST FILM FESTIVAL BET: Celebrate Alaska’s coasts with local films at Surfrider Kenai Peninsula’s Frozen Coast Film Festival on Saturday, Oct. 12 from 7-9 p.m. Hosted by the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center, this free event will showcase amazing short films by local filmmakers that will leave you in awe of our incredible coastal ecosystems. The winner of the Frozen Coast Photo Contest, showing off the best amateur snaps of the Kenai Peninsula coast, will also be announced.
