The Peninsula Clarion and KDLL 91.9 FM are for the third year hosting a series of live, open-to-the-public candidate forums ahead of the municipal and general elections. This week, a forum will be held in Homer with candidates for Homer City Council and mayor.
The forums, which are being held in partnership with the Central Kenai Peninsula League of Women Voters, KBBI AM 890 and KSRM 920 AM/92.5 FM, will take place through Oct. 29 at community libraries around the Kenai Peninsula.
A forum will be held at the Homer Public Library on Thursday, Aug. 29. The forums will run from 6 to 7 p.m. That forum will be moderated by KBBI news director Jamie Diep, KBBI reporter Simon Lopez and Clarion general assignment reporter Jake Dye. The forum will be streamed on the “Peninsula Clarion” Facebook page and broadcast live on the radio at KBBI 890 AM.
Forums will continue on Sept. 5, with candidates for Soldotna City Council at the Soldotna Public Library.
On Sept. 10, a forum with candidates for Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly will be held in Soldotna, followed by a forum with candidates for Seward City Council in the Seward Community Library on Sept. 12.
The last forum before the municipal election on Oct. 1 will feature candidates for the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District’s Board of Education in Seward on Sept. 16.
More forums will be held in October with candidates for the local seats in the Alaska Legislature. Another forum will be held at the Homer Public Library on Oct. 29, with the candidates for House District 6.
Questions asked during the forums will come from KDLL, KBBI, the Clarion and KSRM, in addition to questions submitted by members of the public in advance at info@kdll.org.
All forums will be livestreamed on the Clarion’s Facebook and broadcast live on the radio at either KDLL 91.9 FM, KBBI 890 AM, KSRM 920 AM or KSRM 92.5 FM.
