The Kenai Peninsula Borough School District 2024-2025 school year begins on Aug. 21 and there are several events for students and families leading up to the first day of school. Administrators and some staff had already started working as of Aug. 8 and others began Aug. 14.
Senior schedule pickup was available on Aug. 9, Aug. 12 for juniors and Aug. 13 for sophomores. The school is providing a freshman orientation and open house on Aug. 19 from 6 to 8 p.m. The orientation is a required event and will include the opportunity for students to retrieve their class schedule, find lockers and classrooms, attend a presentation and introduction to the high school, participate in a simulated school schedule and meet teachers. There will also be Homer High School paraphernalia available to pickup.
Parents are also invited to attend informative presentations by freshman teachers.
For students not yet registered, there will be information available for fall sports. These officially started already with football, cheer and cross-country running started on July 31 and volleyball and swim on Aug. 7.
