Homer Spit Run 10K and half marathon happening next weekend

The annual racing event, sponsored by the Kachemak Bay Running Club, is a Homer tradition

The Kachemak Bay Running Club-sponsored Annual Homer Spit Run — which includes the 10K to the Bay and the Cosmic Hamlet Half Marathon — will take place next Saturday, June 29.

The 10K to the Bay is a point-to-point 10K race, starting at Homer High School and finishing at Land’s End Resort. Runners will start at 10 a.m. There will also be an un-timed walkers’ division; walkers may start any time after 9 a.m. All registered walkers will receive a T-shirt and a bib, and will not be charged the $5 race day extra registration fee.

The Cosmic Hamlet Half Marathon starts at 9 a.m. and is an out-and-back race starting and finishing at the end of the Spit. However, runners must register and pick up their bibs at Homer High School before going to the starting line located at Land’s End Resort. The half marathon will follow a similar course to the 10K race, out and back, before finishing at Land’s End Resort.

The registration fee for the 10K to the Bay is $35. Registration for the Cosmic Hamlet half marathon is $45. Registration fees include a T-shirt, but participants should register early to guarantee they will receive a shirt. KBRC members will receive a $5 discount on registration fees. Day-of-race registrations will be charged an additional $5 fee.

Early bib pickup will be at Grace Ridge Brewery on Friday, June 28, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Regular registration for both races, as well as pickup for bibs and T-shirts, will be at Homer High School starting at 8 a.m. on the day of the race.

The 10K to the Bay is a USA Track & Field-certified 10K course. USATF is a national governing body for track and field, cross country running, road running and racewalking.

Both races benefit local youth running programs.
