The Calvin & Coyle Nature Trail is a 1.5-mile loop trail within the 28.67-acre Calvin & Coyle Woodland Park, both of which are owned and maintained by Kachemak Heritage Land Trust.

KHLT is a 501c3 nonprofit organization established in 1989. Our mission is to conserve the natural heritage of Kenai Peninsula for future generations. Once land is under our care, it is protected in perpetuity (forever).

There has been recent public discussion about construction work in proximity to the Calvin & Coyle Woodland Park & Nature Trail. The work in question is related to a recorded sewer utility easement established in 1978, which is maintained by the City of Homer. This easement is groomed every few years by the City of Homer. This is standard practice and not related to new construction or development.

Additionally, KHLT is aware of the Forest Trails Subdivision adjacent to the NW corner of KHLT’s Calvin & Coyle Woodland Park. KHLT has commented on the subdivision during the appropriate comment periods with the City of Homer and KHLT is actively monitoring development of the subdivision to make sure there are no encroachments into the park. We have included a map for reference.

KHLT’s stewardship director is in communication with the City of Homer Public Works Department. In the future, Public Works will work with KHLT to post at the trailhead when they are working on the sewer utility easement and KHLT will provide maps showing the location of the sewer utility easement.
