Dawn Thorp and Stephanie Nicholls were married Tuesday afternoon in a ceremony at the top of Baycrest Hill. They are the second Homer couple to file for a wedding license since the ban on same-sex marriage was lifted in Alaska earlier this month. Before moving to Alaska in 2012, they celebrated a “commitment ceremony” in Montana. Above, Nicholls is walked down the “aisle” overlooking Kachemak Bay by Deb Rhoades, while Thorp is accompanied by her uncle, George Remington. The couple was married by Dave Eckwert. With friends and family bundled up against chilly temperatures, the wedding couple wore matching hooded sweatshirts bearing their new last name: Leadbetter-Thorp, a combination of their maiden names. The ceremony ended with cheers and applause, and with Mary Jane Shows performing an a cappella arrangement of, “Let’s Do It, Let’s Fall in Love.”
