Upcoming events:

The City Tourney for basketball is this weekend March 3-5. Games start Saturday morning at 10:45 a.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Championship game Monday night at 8:30 p.m. All games are at Homer High School.

Basketball: Junior varsity and varsity girls and boys basketball teams will compete against teams from Houston at 3 p.m., 4:45 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. at home. The Homer teams will also compete against Seward teams at 3:50 p.m., 5 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. at home on Friday, which is also Senior Night.

3-point goals — ACS 9 (Lozano 5, Hall 4); Homer 5 (Rohr 3, Etzwiler 2). Team fouls — ACS 19, Homer 16. Fouled out — Dickerson.

Middle school sports

Volleyball: The Chapman School volleyball team took first place overall in a small schools volleyball tournament held over the weekend. Head Coach Vanessa Wilcox said the 14 girls have been working hard and improving all season.

“They came a long way this season from where we started out,” she said. “I was really happy with, at the end, how they were communicating and how they were really showing the skills.”

The Chapman team took first at the tournament against the three other schools in the league with middle school teams. Chapman played each other team twice during the season on the way to the tournament, Wilcox said.

Wrestling: Led by Coach Bubba Wells, the Chapman School wrestling team competed in a borough level meet on Saturday, Feb. 24. There, team member Blake Newman became the reigning champion of the 85 pound weight class. Michael Ritter was named champion of the 90 pound weight class, and Russell Nyvall took third place in his 110 pound weight class.
