Sideways rain and strong winds didn’t slow down walkers, runners and strollers participating in the first annual 5K Run for Recovery on Saturday, Sept. 16.
Hosted at the Kevin Bell Arena on the Spit by local coalitions All Things Recovery and Kachemak Bay Recovery Connection, the event saw “amazing turnout” with more than 90 total registrants.
“We have had so much positive feedback from the community about the event,” organizer and All Things Recovery Coalition facilitator Jaclyn Rainwater wrote in a Tuesday, Sept. 19 post on All Things Recovery’s Facebook page. “Kachemak Bay Recovery Connection’s mission statement is, ‘Creating safe and supportive connections, empowering individuals & families, while building a recovery community for all people in recovery or affected by addiction.’ We hope our 5K did just that and we plan to continue the work in new ways throughout the year!”
Prizes were given out in seven categories for race participants during an awards ceremony after the conclusion of the race.
