Homer High School will offer 3 sports camps at the end of July for football, cheer and volleyball. To participate in camps, students need to be registered in the Planet HS system (www.planeths.com) and have physical exams completed and uploaded to that site. Incoming freshman students are eligible to participate in all of these camps.
The football camp is July 17-30 and will be run by Coach Justin Zink and other members of the coaching staff. It will run Monday-Thursday from 4-8 p.m. Students need to have cleats and a mouth guard; everything else will be provided by the school. This camp is free.
Homer High School Mariner Cheer is hosting a cheer camp July 24-28, organized by Coach Winter Marshall-Allen. The camp will be facilitated by coaches from the National Cheer Association. Students from Grace Christian School in Anchorage will also be in Homer to attend. If there are students interested from other schools on the Kenai Peninsula they can contact Marshall-Allen through the Homer High School office at (907) 235-4600. Marshall-Allen is a special education teacher and facilitates Homer’s community-based instruction program.
Volleyball camp will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., July 31-Aug. 3. Homer High School Athletic Director Justin Zink said that the school is not sure who will be leading that camp, as a coach has not yet been hired for the season. Volleyball camp is free.
For the indoor camps, students will have access to the gymnasium, but the Commons will be closed. They may or may not have access to the locker rooms because they are still undergoing construction.
