The Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly accepted roughly $50.4 million in bond proceeds Tuesday that it will use to complete bond initiatives approved by borough voters last fall.

About $16.4 million will be used for the construction of a new primary fire station for Central Emergency Services in Soldotna, while the remaining $40 million will be used to complete a first round of school maintenance projects. In all, borough voters approved $65.5 million in school projects.

Per a Feb. 9 memo from Kenai Peninsula Borough Finance Director Brandi Harbaugh to assembly members, the borough expects to accept the remaining school maintenance proceeds in 2025 or 2026, depending on how many projects have been completed and what other resources are available.

Harbaugh wrote in a separate memo that the money accepted for the CES station will be used to cover planning, design, site preparation, construction and renovation work, as well as equipment of the new station.
