Our loving mother, grandmother and dear friend, Mickey Rosi passed peacefully away in her home June 11, 2022. She had just celebrated her 96th birthday a few days prior. She was a long-time resident of Homer/Kachemak City, Alaska. Although she was bed bound for nearly 3 years, she took this in stride as she did her whole life with a positive attitude, good humor and stoicism. She was well looked after by many kind care givers, friends and family.

Mickey was born May 30, 1926 and was raised in Redford, Michigan and shared many stories of her early life growing up during the Great Depression. She moved to Fairbanks, Alaska as a young woman met her husband Guy I Rosi, Sr. and they moved to Homer in 1955. They made a good life together. Dad had his mechanic shop, Rosi Auto Electric and mom opened her grocery store, Mickey’s Market at 3.9-mile East End Road in 1961. Many people would come from miles around to shop and place their orders for winter staples. Mickey enjoyed socializing with her customers, friends and their children (especially babies). She closed and locked the doors on the store in 1982.

Mickey then began to work at 4 in the Morning Greenhouse at Fritz Creek and at the Wagon Wheel where she worked into her late 70s. Her specialty was producing beautiful floral hanging baskets (petunia, fuchsia, and begonia). She had a saying, “You can never be too rich, too thin or have too much Lobelia.”

She was fun loving and added life and a floor show wherever she went. Breaking out in a song and tap dance, skipping rope, reciting poetry and even writing some. Her home was filled with houseplants and the yard was filled with birds and other wildlife. Mickey will be remembered and missed by all. One of her mottos in life was things were “No hill for a stepper.”

She is survived by her son, Guy Rosi Jr. daughter, Renée Purpura and granddaughters, Rochelle Purpura, Rosalia Purpura, Kalyn Kratz and grandson-in-law Brandon Head. Also, Kalyn’s mom Nancy Kratz and daughter-in-law Christine Hoffman-Riggs. While being preceded in death by her husband, Guy I Rosi Sr. son, Marshall Rosi, daughter, Linda Riggs, Mother Ethel (Millard) Duggan, brothers, Jim Duggan and George Duggan and sister, Velma Ruth (Duggan) Simon.
