Homer resident, Mrs. Janice Lynn Smith, 65, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012, at South Peninsula Hospital in Homer.
Memorial services were at noon Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012, at the Homer Independent Baptist Church, 3614 Forest Glen in Homer. Pastor Glen Harbaugh officiated.
Mrs. Smith was born Aug. 26, 1947, in Blythe, Calif. She moved to Homer in 2005 from California. She worked for Patterson Foods in Patterson, Calif., in the 1970s. She worked for various medical facilities including Turlock Medical Center and Rose Garden throughout the 1980s. In the 1990s she worked for TOPA Management Company in Clayton and Stockton, Calif. Most recently she has been helping with her familys motel business called the Windjammer Suites in Homer. Janice was a member of the Homer Independent Baptist Church. Janice received recognition for her life saving actions that were performed on a senior citizen in need while in Thousand Oaks, Calif. She loved doing crafts, reading and playing games.
The family wrote, Janice was loved by all who knew her. She was an exceptional mother, grandmother and an exemplary wife who will be greatly missed. She was generous of her time and good cheer and always helped those in need. She was quick to laugh, share stories, and enjoyed conversations. She cherished her family and was devoted to each one regardless of the miles that separated them. Family, to her, was every person that touched her life in any way. She loved deeply and it showed in her words and actions. We are better for having had her in our lives. She was a devoted Christian that shared her faith at any given opportunity and we know she is rejoicing in Heaven with loved ones who have gone before and if there is a Wahoo marble game (a family traditional game) being played up there, she is definitely playing.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer Waldrip and Cecilia Bates.
She is survived by her husband, Russell Smith of Homer; son, Robert Daniel and his wife, Jennifer of Delhi, Calif.; daughter, DeAnna Daniel of Modesto, Calif.; sisters, Judy Holtz of Modesto, Calif. and Dana Price of Delhi, Calif.; brother, Jay Bates of California; stepmother, Roberta Waldrip of Blythe, Calif.; grandchildren, Noelle and Khrys Daniel of Delhi, Calif., and Bryan Daniel of Modesto, Calif.; extended family of one son and threedaughters and many grandchildren, other family members and numerous others who will all miss her.
