Tammy Jones

Tammy Jones passed away peacefully the first week in March 2022 at the age of 63 after a very extended non-COVID-19 related illness. She was with her family at her home in Halibut Cove where she had resided for many years.

Tammy was born in the town of Yreka, California, and grew up in the northern California and southern Oregon, Medford area. She moved to Homer with her parents and siblings in 1975 and lived and went to high school in Homer for a little over a year. During that time she met her future husband, Carl Jones ,and they were married in 1976 in Oregon. Tammy was the mother of five children: Robin, Brody, Matthew, Chelsea and Richard. Tammy was very supportive of her husband and was a driving force of several business ventures, including commercial fishing and also Jones Frontier Enterprises, a small log building operation.

When her husband couldn’t work due to health issues, she started a cleaning business at the age of 28 and soon had the contract for the City of Homer, and also did construction clean-up for local contractors as well as cleaning many offices around Homer. After selling the business, she and Carl built a small store in Kachemak City. She sold chainsaws, local cut lumber, as well as antiques and consignment items.

Tammy loved dealing with people and interacting with friends. She was very involved with getting the McNeil Canyon school built out on East End Road.

Tammy loved sport fishing and spent countless hours with her children at the fishing hole on the Homer Spit, and also fishing for kings at the Anchor River. At the age of 36, she and Carl began the long process of moving from East End Road to the community of Halibut Cove, with the goal of building cabin rentals and the Covelight Inn and Cafe which they — and with the help of friends, family and neighbors — built over along period of time, fulfilling Tammy’s dream of being an Innkeeper. Tammy loved Halibut Cove and always had the coffee pot on; she delighted in the diverse Halibut Cove “family of friends,” all who supported her and Carl greatly during her years of declining health and final days.

Tammy’s biggest joy in life was time spent with her grandchildren, Eric, Ryan, Alex, Kera, Riley, Chase, Patrick, Isaac, Paxton, Penny and Eleanor.

Tammy is also survived by her husband Carl; her brother; Tom; sister Debbie; brother, Mike; sister, Susan, and sister, Lisa.

Tammy will be remembered for her welcoming hospitality, her generosity and feisty passionate nature and for always beingastrong advocate for those in need. Tammy will be missed by all.

A celebration of her life will be held in Halibut Cove on July 22, 2022.
