Billy D. Butler

Billy Dean Butler was born on July 10, 1934, and died on Feb. 23, 2022, at the age of 87. Bill was born in Minnesota to Dean and Nevella Butler. The family moved to, California, then Olympia, Washington. He graduated from Irene S. Reed High School in Sheldon, Washington, in 1953. He joined the U.S. Army in 1957 and served one tour in Germany as a signal man. After completing his military service, he began his career as a Title Examiner.
In 1960, he loaded up his VW bug and drove to Alaska to take a job at the new Anchorage office of Alaska Title Guarantee. As part of his work, he would go to the recording districts around Alaska. He eventually worked in Palmer and Fairbanks for ATG.
He met Dolores Lentz through work, and they married in 1965. They welcomed son Patrick in 1966. In 1977, he moved the family to Homer, Alaska and opened Kachemak Bay Title agency. He owned and ran the company with Dolores until 1988. In 1990, he hired on with the State of Alaska DOT as a Right-Of-Way agent and retired in 1999.
After retiring, he took up woodturning. He enjoyed it and turned many things, with small tops for kids of all ages being his best-known item.
He enjoyed prospecting for gold, wood working and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Bonnie. He is survived by his wife Dolores and his son Patrick (Shannon).
