The Antique Auto Mushers of Alaska and the Alaska Model A Club sponsor an Antique Auto and Classic Car show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Wells Fargo parking lot. More than 20 Ford Model A and other classic cars from Anchorage, Homer and elsewhere on the Kenai Peninsula will be featured. Admission is free.

Anchor Point Cemetery Cleanup Day is Saturday. Meet at the cemetery at 10 am. If you have any weed wackers or any cleanup tools please bring them. Don’t forget your gloves. Much help is needed for this cleanup.

Memorial Day cemetery services on May 27 are at 10 a.m. in Homer, noon in Anchor Point and 2 p.m. in Ninilchik.

The Seldovia Chamber of Commerce holds its fifth annual Human Powered Fishing Derby on Memorial Day weekend. The derby runs from 8 a.m. May 24 to 4 p.m. May 26. All kayaks, rowboats and other human powered craft are welcome, with no motors and no fishing from the shore.
The entry fee is $35 per fishing rod. Prizes will be awarded for the biggest halibut, salmon, cod and black rockfish. Anglers who weigh in any of these species will become eligible for the grand prize, a 17-foot EasyRider single kayak outfitted with all accessories. All entrants must depart from and return to the Seldovia harbor. Weigh-ins occur each day at 4 p.m. in the Seldovia harbor. The derby will culminate with a community fish fry potluck at 4 p.m. May 26. Everyone is welcome to attend the fish fry. Last year 39 boats entered the derby and more than 120 people attended the fish fry.

The Alaska Air Show Association (AASA) honors 100 years of Alaska aviation with the “Alaska Aviation Centennial: 1913-2013.” From May 9 to July 14 vintage aircraft will barnstorm a commemorative route throughout Alaska, making 15 stops to honor the men and women who forged the path for Alaska’s aviators. The commemorative route started in Anchorage on May 9, flying to Cordova, and over eight weeks makes stops throughout the state. Chambers of commerce, local museums, airport lessees, cities and other sponsors have planned entertaining events around each stop. The centennial tour visits Homer May 24 and 25, with a reception May 24 at Bald Mountain Air and a mixer 5 to 7 p.m. that evening at the Pratt Museum. Other stops include Anchorage, Cordova, Valdez, Illiamna, King Salmon, Dillingham, Bethel, Aniak, McGrath, Galena, Unalakleet, Nome, Kotzebue, Barrow, Fairbanks, Talkeetna and Wasilla.

Pratt Museum
Summer hours have started and are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. “Encounters: Whales in Our Waters” is on exhibit until July 21. At 5 p.m. Friday, Nancy Lord and Janet Klein present “Belugas and People: Their Cook Inlet History Together.” Both have explored and written about the endangered Cook Inlet beluga whales.
International Museum Day is Saturday, with free admission to the Pratt. A book signing with Dena Matkin for her book, “A Researcher’s Life,” is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

The museum seeks people to volunteer time and energy this summer. People of all ages can offer their volunteer services to enhance the quality of experience visitors have at the museum. If you enjoy interacting with people and have two to four hours a week to spare, the museum invites you to join its team of volunteers.
