Newly-elected Homer City Council members Shelly Erickson and Jason Davis and re-elected council member Donna Aderhold were sworn in during the Oct. 11 city council meeting after the Oct. 5 municipal election results were certified.
Two three-year seats and a one-year seat were up for grabs this election cycle. Erickson and Aderhold claimed the two three-year council seats with 41% or 841 of the votes and 40% or 829 of the votes respectively. Davis, who was appointed to an interim seat on council this summer, won the one-year seat left vacant by former city council member Joey Evensen who resigned in July. Davis led former city council member Heath Smith in the race with 56% or 723 of the votes.
City Clerk Melissa Jacobsen swore in the council members at the beginning of the regular meeting.
Erickson, who previously served on city council from 2015-2018, resumed her position at the dais and made her voice known during the meeting. Aderhold was reelected for her third three-year term and shared her excitement to continue working with the council. Their terms will end in October 2024.
Davis will serve until October 2022 and said he was thankful to be elected by the people after being previously appointed by the council.
