Taxes won’t increase for poor
I continually wonder where in the heck Greg Sarber gets the information that he writes in this forum.
President Biden has said many times he will not increase the taxes on the poor and middle class to pay for an infrastructure bill. Biden plans on paying for this with a corporate tax hike. They can more easily chip in and our infrastructures desperately need fixing.

Homer Steps Up
Homer Steps Up set a goal this year of 150 million steps overall to be accomplished by any of the residents who wished to join in and keep track of their steps from May 1 to May 28. This fun challenge has been taking place for five years, and this is my third year participating. As of the final tally, the goal was met with 164,202,611 steps completed by 708 participants —over three times around the earth.
It has been fun getting out and walking every day. The challenge is a motivator to get me off the couch and put aside excuses. Some days I had that “I don’t want to!” attitude, but once out on the road or trail, that soon vanished.
Thank you to South Peninsula Hospital, the Homer Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center and the many sponsors who offered encouragement and sometimes prizes or discounts to participants throughout the program.
I’ve met some new neighbors and renewed some acquaintances as people start getting out. I’ve met many dogs, watched moose calves being born, been awed by the plumage of birds in the spring and took in the beauty and wonderful air we are so fortunate to have here. As community clean up began, I started multitasking on some days, carrying along a bright yellow bag and collecting trash in the ditches.
Thanks for the Homer Steps Up Program. It is fun, promotes getting out, promotes better health and can be full of surprises.

Thanks for supporting youth
The support of youth in this community is incredible, and I’d like to say a public thank you to Homer Electric Association for the generous scholarship they have provided me. I will be putting this money towards my educational costs at Simpson University this fall. Thanks for the love, Homer!

Business updated through grant
The Anchor Point Food Pantry wishes to extend a grateful “thank you” for a grant provided to us by the Bluegrass Fund and the Opportune Fund of the Homer Foundation. We used the grant that we received to fix the label on our box truck. The label used to read: Kenai Peninsula Food Bank, etc. Now it reads our own name and contact information: Anchor Point Food Pantry, PO Box 266, A.P. 99556. Phone: 907-299-8437. Thanks to Grace Ridge for trails support
The Kachemak Bay Water Trail Committee and the Friends of Kachemak Bay State Park, thank Don and Sherry Stead and the staff at Grace Ridge Brewery for their continued support of volunteer efforts on Kachemak Bay and in Kachemak Bay State Park. With their donation of tips for the month of May, more of our goals will be realized.
For example, on June 5 and 6, Trails Day weekend, volunteers cleared fallen trees from the trails, cut brush, and improved the trail tread in a variety of popular locations. Volunteers also helped the new hosts at the Halibut Cove Lagoon Ranger Station take care of many early season chores. Transportation, tools, gas, oil, and required safety gear, all come with a cost. Because of community support, the Friends can have more volunteer trail projects all summer.
Through the generosity of the Grace Ridge Brewery and the folks that provided the tips, we say “thank you very much.”

Kayak skills class appreciated
The Kachemak Bay Water Trail Committee thanks Randy Keller of Isuma Guideworks for recently conducting a two day kayak skills class for kayakers just getting started and those wanting a bit of a refresher.
Water safety is one of the priority goals of the Water Trail Committee, and Randy expertly shares his knowledge, skills, and enthusiasm with class participants.
The Committee also thanks Randy for advertising the class as a fundraiser and making a donation to support Water Trail Committee goals.
