Marilyn Sigman launches book
Author Marilyn Sigman visits Homer this weekend for the launch of her book, “Entangled: People and Ecological Change in Alaska’s Kachemak Bay,” at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, March 10, at Grace Ridge Brewing, 3388 B. Street.
Books will be available for sale and Sigman will sign her book.
Sales benefit the Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies.
Alaska Reads author presents book
Part of the Alaska Reads series, poet Nicole Stellon O’Donnell reads from her book, “Steam Laundry, at 6 p.m. Monday, March 12, at the Homer Public Library.
She also will discuss and answer questions about her book. The Alaska Reads series celebrates books by living Alaska authors. Copies of her book are available at the library.
Snow Ball is March 31
One of Alaska’s favorite groups, the Super Saturated Sugar Strings return to Homer for the annual Snow Ball at 8 p.m. March 31 at Alice’s Champagne Palace.
Tickets are $20 at Bunnell Street Arts Center and benefit the center. Bunnell has hosted SSSS for a number of residencies while they write new music. Be winter ball costume inspired for the late winter bash.
Pratt seeks images, art for 50-anniversary shows
As the Pratt Museum looks back on 50 years of collecting community history, it also looks to the future to ask what we will collect over the next 50.
How do you envision the community and the museum in 2068? As part of two concurrent exhibits curated by Sharlene Cline, The Pratt Museum invites the community to contribute to this conversation in three ways.
1. Call for photo submissions: Ties Us Together. What are the activities that tie our community together? How would you represent our community to an audience in 2068? Submit a photo of one activity that ties us together. No description necessary. The deadline is June 1 for a large, progressively growing collage.
2. Call for art: Future Visions. What will our community look like in 50 years, circa 2068? Express your vision through visual art, mixed media, and/or narrative. Deadline: April 16, 2018.
3. Call for reference submissions: Shared Artifacts. Do you possess treasured objects that are representative of your life or our shared experience around the Kachemak Bay region? What item would you want to be preserved for the future? Submit a photograph and description of your object or image, at the Pratt’s front desk or online.
Deadline: June 1, 2018. The exhibits will run May 4 through July 1, 2018.
