What a show of support we received from our amazing community for the Homer Community Food Pantry’s Fourth Annual Empty Bowls Fundraiser. Since 500-600-plus cans of food go out the door weekly, the donations received will give us a much needed boost in the arm to help purchase food in the coming months.
This whole event could not happen without the many, many wonderful folks who helped.
The amazing local potters, potters from KBC and the Homer High potters supported us by creating a whopping 208 bowls. Wow! Special thanks go out to Ruby Haigh who ramrodded the whole potter’s show and without whom it just would not have happened. Thank you, Ruby. It is so humbling and we are so very, very grateful to each and every one of you.
If you weren’t there you missed out on the delicious soups donated by 22 local restaurants. They were so good that folks were coming back for seconds. And thanks to those who provided breads and desserts to round out our menu.
We can’t miss thanking the Homer Bookstore for, once again, graciously taking care of our ticket sales. And to Loopy Lupine who donated paper goods again this year.
To top off the luncheon, we were serenaded by the Homer Ukulele Group Society, otherwise known as “HUGS.” Many of our hugs go to them, a great time was had by all.
And last but definitely not least, our thanks go to each and every one of those who volunteered. From those who set up, who picked up the soups, sold tickets and T-shirts, the bowl wrappers who wrapped the beautiful bowls to make sure they got home safely, the folks in the kitchen, the servers and to those who cleaned up afterwards.
Our sincere thanks to all of the friends of the food pantry, for without your support we would not be able to help our neighbors. Thank you all.
