Duane (Gus) Floyd Andress

Longtime Alaskan and Homer resident Mr. Duane (Gus) Floyd Andress, 77, died Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at his home with his family by his side.

A celebration of his life will be held from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, April 18, 2021 at Glacier View Baptist Church, 960 East End Road in Homer.

Duane was born May 16, 1943 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He moved to Alaska in 1977, living in Anchorage for 42 years before moving to Homer.

“Gus Andress’ greatest desire was to meet Jesus, and he fulfilled that goal on March 31, 2021. He left earth quietly and at peace, but I know he was running fast as possible to get to his destination and the beginning of his life forever in Heaven. Gus was always up for any challenge and one of his greatest joys was making people laugh. He even had a notebook of jokes and punch lines, so he was prepared for any occasion. He loved Jesus, his family and friends, all college sports, and assigning nick names to everyone he knew,” his family said.

Gus knew at the age of 10 that he wanted to be an engineer. He graduated from the University of Southern California with a master’s in environmental engineering in 1977, and received his P.E. Certificate in Civil Engineering in 1979. He immediately left Southern California for Anchorage, Alaska, where he spent the next 42 years as an engineer. He never encountered a problem he could not solve, and he loved the challenge of helping his clients. He especially enjoyed working with “all his contractors.”

He was preceded in death by his parents, Andy and Vera Andress.

He is survived by his wife, Diane (Price) Andress of Homer; niece, Layna (Ben) Peltier of Twin Oaks, Minnesota; great nephews, Grant Peltier of Twin Oaks, Minnesota; great nieces, Grace Peltier of Twin Oaks, Minnesota, and Lila Mae Peltier of Twin Oaks, Minnesota; stepchildren, Amy Price of Wrangell, Alaska, and Aaron Price of Scarborough, Maine, and stepchild, Renee and her husband Chris and their daughter, Abigail, all of Anchorage.
