March 20-26
Firefighters and emergency medical technicians went to one fire call at 9:45 a.m. March 25. Firefighters responded to a structure fire on Ohlson Mountain Road.They found a fast moving fire in the roof and second floor of a two-story wood frame structure. Due to the hosue construction and the snow cover around the home, firefighters had difficulty getting the fire under control which came at 12:12 p.m. The structure sustained significant damage.
A man and his dog evacuated the building and no injuries were reported. Mutual aid was received from Homer Volunteer Fire Department and Anchor Point Fire Service Area. The cause is undetermined at this time; however, investigators are concentrating their efforts in the area of the wood stove stack installation between the second floor and the roof.
Homer Police
March 20
A woman at 10:20 a.m. came to the station to report being threatened through Facebook. Police investigated the incident and said it did not rise to the level of a crime.
A woman at 1:47 p.m. made a 911 call reporting being locked out of her Orion Circle home. Police advised her to get a locksmith.
A caller at 3:27 p.m. reported a shoplifter at a Lake Street store.
A caller at 1:39 p.m. reported tools missing from his vehicle parked at a Sterling Highway lot.
March 21
A man at 9:41 a.m. came to the station to report an incident of fraud.
A man at 9:45 a.m. came to the station to report he was a victim of identity theft.
A person at 11:29 a.m. made a 911 call of a suicidal man at a Mattox Road address. Police responded and the man was taken to South Peninsula Hospital.
A caller at 4:06 p.m. reported a possibly injured moose on Lake Street near Grubstake Avenue. Police notified the Alaska Department of Fish and Game.
A man at 4:05 p.m. came to the station to report an employee had not shown up for work. Police advised the man to have the Alaska State Troopers do a welfare check.
Several callers at 9:43 p.m. reported an injured moose in the Sterling Highway and Hunter Street area. Police responded and saw the moose leave on its own.
March 22
A caller at 9:57 a.m. reported a black bear in the Bartlett Street area.
Police at 12:25 p.m. received drug information and arrested a 25-year-old woman on drug charges. Police at 2:08 p.m. served a search warrant related to the arrest.
A caller at 2:43 p.m. reported two signs stolen from an Ocean Drive yard. The caller later reported finding one sign intact.
A caller at 5:42 p.m. made a “report every dangerous driver immediately” complaint of a driver at Bishop’s Beach. Police responded and arrested a 38-year-old man for driving under the influence.
A caller at 8:12 p.m. reported a domestic violence incident on the Spit.
March 23
A caller at 1:54 a.m. reported a verbal disturbance at a Pioneer Avenue business. Police responded and arrested a 26-year-old man for criminal trespassing.
A caller at 8:46 a.m. reported a generator and tools stolen from a Fish Dock Road address the night before.
A caller at 9:42 a.m. reported receiving a forged check.
A caller at 9:52 a.m. reported a woman harassing two men on the Spit.
A caller at 2:35 p.m. reported being followed by a vehicle on East End Road. Police responded. All was OK.
Troopers
March 17
Alaska State Troopers at 12:19 p.m. went to a single-vehicle crash near Mile 72 Seward Highway. Troopers said a 67-year-old Homer man driving south in a red 1993 Jeep Cherokee lost control, went into the ditch and rolled over. Troopers cited the man for driving while license suspended. The man wore his seatbelt. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
March 19
Troopers and the Whitter Police Department at 2:29 p.m. went to a multiple-vehicle crash near Mile 91.4 Seward Highway in Girdwood. Troopers said a 29-year-old Homer woman driving a silver 2010 Kia Soul braked to avoid a collision with a car in front of her after a state snowplow drove by, blinding her with a wall of blowing snow. A 45-year-old Anchorage man driving behind her could not stop in time due to snow and ice on the road and hit the Homer woman’s car. All parties involved wore their seatbelts. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
March 23
Troopers at 3:20 a.m. went to a disturbance on Cape Ninilchik Road in Anchor Point. They arrested a 48-year-old Anchor Point man for violating conditions of release in a separate criminal case.
March 24
Alaska Wildlife Troopers at 3:45 p.m. issued a summons to a 30-year-old Homer man in Seward for failing to have his vessel monitoring system activated while fishing in the Cook Inlet state and federal wates parallel Pacific cod groundfish fishery.

Judgments
Clarence S. Hock, 25, charge dismissed, fourth-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance. He pleaded guilty to another charge of fourth-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance and was fined $1,000 and sentenced to 180 days in jail with 180 days suspended; ordered to pay $50 to support the Police Training Fund and a $150 jail surcharge with $100 suspended; ordered to obtain a substance abuse evaluation and forfeit all items seized; and was placed on probation for one year.
Carli F. Rico, 21, pleaded guilty at her arraignment to fifth-degree criminal mischief, domestic violence. She was fined $500 with $500 suspended and ordered to pay $50 to support the Police Training Fund and a $150 jail surcharge with $100 suspended; ordered not to have contact with her victim except at work; and was placed on probation for one year. She also pleaded guilty to driving without a valid operator’s license and was fined $150.
Willie F. Hamilton, 58, pleaded guilty to second-degree harassment. He was fined $500 with $250 suspended and sentenced to 10 days in jail with 10 days suspended; ordered to pay $50 to support the Police Training Fund and a $150 jail surcharge with $100 suspended; ordered not to have contact with his victim; and was placed on probation for one year.
Andrew Cook, 25, pleaded guilty to driving while license cancelled, suspend, revoked or limited. He was sentenced to 10 days in jail and ordered to pay $50 to support the Police Training Fund and a $150 jail surcharge with $100 suspended.
