Phoebe Estill

Phoebe Estill, aged 55, of Homer passed away on Friday, Nov. 6, 2020 at Providence Medical Center in Anchorage.

Phoebe was born on Friday, Aug. 20, 1965 to Jack Dean and Cathy (Lambert) Estill in Soldotna. She graduated from Homer High School in 1984, went on to receive an Associate of Arts at Kenai Peninsula College and later earned a 100 Ton Captain’s License.

Phoebe proudly served her country in the U.S. Army from 1991 through 1999 and also worked for R&R Fisheries. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and enjoyed reading, quilting and gardening.

She was preceded in death by her father, Jack, and her grandparents.

Phoebe is survived by her son, Kaleb Long of Homer; beloved partner, Ray Bellamy of Homer; Cathy Estill of Ojai, California; twin sister, Melissa Blumenthal of Brentwood, California; brother, Matthew Estill of San Francisco, California; sister, Priscilla Estill of Homer; aunts, Priscilla Brennan of Ojai, Anna Flanigan of Homer, and Annie Lambert of Anchor Point; and countless nieces and nephews.

Her family said, “To know Phoebe was to love her. She was a special kind of person that can only be formed by the harshness of life; genuinely positive, humble and in love with living. Phoebe was the epitome of Alaskan womanhood. She was an accomplished athlete, a soldier, a successful commercial fisherwoman and boat captain, a loyal partner and a devoted mother. Phoebe won two previous battles against cancer. These struggles only strengthened her optimism and work ethic. She was caring and selfless. When cancer struck a third time, she was strong. Her concern was not with herself, but rather with making sure her family and friends didn’t worry about her. While napping just several days before her death, Phoebe heard the voice of God. She passed away peacefully and unafraid surrounded by her family.”
