Don Lee Sanford

Longtime Homer resident, Mr. Don Lee Sanford, 86, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2020 at South Peninsula Hospital in Homer, Alaska with his family by his side.

No services will be planned per Don’s wishes.

Don was born March 1, 1934 in Tacoma, Washington. He graduated from high school in Kodiak. Don worked for PGL in Seattle which specialized in wholesale lumber. He later moved to Anchorage, working for their office there in 1975. He lived in Anchorage from 1975-1983. In 1983 he moved to Homer where he worked for SBS up until 1996. In 1996 he started his own business called Sanford Services, repairing many Toyo Stoves all around Homer and the outlying areas.

The family wrote, “Don got along with everyone that he met. He enjoyed helping people who needed his services to fix their Toyo Stove. He loved to fish the Kachemak Bay and loved his dogs very much. He was a gentle person who was always caring towards others.”

He is survived by his wife, Judy Sanford of Homer; sister, Billie Adams of Marysville, Washington; sons, Devin (Sophie) Sanford of Lake Stevens, Washington, Scott Sanford of Blaine, Washington, and Dusty (Marlene) Sanford of Whidbey, Washington; brother, Roy (Venetta) Sanford of Concrete, Washington; and daughters, Arnel (Noel) Cervantes of Franklin, Wisconsin and Jackie Nordlinder of Homer, Alaska.
