Swimming:
Swim teams from around the peninsula competed in a virtual meet over the weekend, with each team from Homer, Kenai, Soldotna and Seward swimming in their own pools, and merging the results.
The meet was held as a preview to this weekend’s peninsula championships, said Homer High School Counselor Paul Story in an email.
During the virtual meet, Seward’s Lydia Jacoby broke the fastest time ever swum by a female in Alaska for the 100 yard breaststroke, with a time of 1 minute, 0.16 seconds.
Homer swimmers broke local school records as well. The 400 yard freestyle relay team of Madison Story, Hannah Overdorf, Carly Nelson and Adeline Berry broke the Homer High School record for that race by 3 seconds with a time of 3:45.74. In her leg of the relay, Story tied her mother’s previous 100 yard freestyle record at Homer High, with a time of 54.36.
