Mary Joyce Robinette

Mary Joyce Robinette, 85, died Friday, Sept. 4, 2020 at Homer Friendship Terrace.
She was born March 7, 1935 in Blackwater, Virginia to Amos and Manie Robinette. She graduated valedictorian from Blackwater High School in 1953. In 1957 she graduated from Radford University in Virginia with a degree in teaching. In 1970 Joyce went back to college to become a school librarian. Teaching and library posts took her to Yorktown, Virginia; Wallace, Idaho; Cordova, Alaska; Browning, Montana; and Adak, Alaska. In 1994 she moved to Homer, Alaska.
In her retirement years, Joyce volunteered at the Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies. She hiked, tide-pooled, identified plants and led students on field trips across Kachemak Bay. She was a birdwatcher, a cross-country skier, world-traveler, photographer, gardener, and a happy camper always ready for adventure. She also loved chocolate.
Joyce’s friends are invited to walk the outdoor labyrinth at St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church, 619 Sterling Highway from 3-7 p.m. this Friday, Sept. 11, 2020, to remember Joyce and say goodbye. Please direct any questions to Rick Porter at 235-7394.
