The Nadpoles team came away victorious this past weekend as the winners of the Homer Softball League’s championship tournament.
“Homer softball lore is rarely shared without the utterance of the past Nads team that dominated the local league for many years,” participant Heath Smith wrote in an email. “They set a standard that forced everyone to raise their game, or be fed a serious slice of humility.”
While that team is long gone, Smith said, the Nadpoles name was resurrected this year by a team of younger players, who brought “a brand of ball worthy of its namesake.”
“This Nads team was made up primarily from the gene pool of the league’s past participants, and brought with them a trove of experience as titans who proudly wore a Mariner jersey and represented our community well as they competed across the state,” Smith wrote.
The Nadpoles were crowned champions of this year’s city softball tournament, Smith reported. The team defeated Summit Physical Therapy 12-9 in the tournament’s final game.
Beluga Lake lodge placed third, Smith wrote. Maggie LaRue and Tommy Bowe were named MVPs of the tournament.
