Mike Dunleavy, working with the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services, has ordered the suspension of classes and after-school activities from March 16 to March 30. This means all school sports, including practices, are suspended.
School buildings are also not to be used by community recreation or user groups during this time.

The Kachemak Nordic Ski Club Nordic Ski Marathon scheduled for Saturday, March 21 has been canceled.
The club announced on its website that the marathon “has been canceled due to epidemiological concerns about spreading (coronavirus.)”
“Thanks to all the hard-working volunteers who would have made this the best KNSC Marathon (race) ever,” the cancellation notice said. “Stay tuned for further information about the trail.”

The annual Sea to Ski Triathlon, which was scheduled for Sunday, March 29, has been canceled. Also hosted by the Kachemak Nordic Ski Club, the event features a running, biking and skiing race from the Homer Spit to the trails off Rogers Loop Road.
The club announced on its website that the event has been canceled due to the same concerns about spreading the virus.
The Epic Big Fat Bike Festival, hosted by the Homer Cycling Club and scheduled to run March 27-29, has also been canceled.
“It is with great disappointment that Homer Cycling Club is cancelling the “Epic Big Fat Bike Festival” for 2020 due to the current pandemic, which has affected all of our lives in unprecedented ways,” the club announced on its Facebook page. “We discussed making modifications to the itinerary of events to reduce risk of exposure as much as possible. However, the pace of spread of the virus has led the CDC to recommend gatherings of 50 (plus) people be canceled, so we have decided to heed this advice, for the good of all humanity.”
