Girls basketball: The Lady Mariners will host Nikiski this Friday at 6:30 p.m. in the Alice Witte Gymnasium for senior night, before going on to play in Seward at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Boys basketball: The Homer boys also have senior night on Friday and will also play Nikiski at home. At 8 p.m. the boys will play Seward in an away game at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

Big Fat Bike Festival
The revival of the Big Fat Bike Festival hosted by the Homer Cycling Club begins at 6 p.m. on Friday, March 27 at Bishop’s Beach, with food, fire and fun.
On Saturday, March 28, there will be the traditional Anchor Point to Homer beach ride for those who like to embrace low pressure weekends. New to the festival for 2020, there will also be a 60k biking and 30k running race. Bikers ride from Bishop’s Beach to the mouth of the Anchor River and back, and runners start in Anchor Point and finish at Bishop’s Beach.
Sunday, March 29, competitors will hit the snow (assuming there is any) and head east to Caribou Lake for miles and miles of riding opportunity. Visit www.homercyclingclub.org for details. Those who want to pre-register can email homercyclingclub@gmail.com.
Kachemak Bay Traditional Games
The second annual Native Youth Olympics Invitational, Kachemak Bay Traditional Games, will be held March 6-7 at Homer High School.
Friday:
Noon – Opening
12:30 p.m. – coaches/officials meeting
1 p.m. – kneel jump
2 p.m. – two-foot high kick
3:30 p.m. – scissor broad jump
4:30 p.m. – Eskimo stick pull
6 p.m. – wrist carry
7:30 p.m. – medals ceremony
Saturday:
9 a.m. – coaches/officials meeting
9:30 a.m. – Indian stick puull
11 a.m. – Alaskan high kick
12:30 p.m. – medals ceremony/lunch
1:30 p.m. – arm pull (juniors), one-hand pull (seniors)
3 p.m. – one-foot high kick
4:30 p.m. – seal hop
5:30 p.m. – medals ceremony, sportsmanship awards and closing of games.

Thursday
Ninilchik girls 56, Kodiak ESS 43
The host Wolverines picked up a Peninsula Conference victory over Kodiak ESS last Thursday.
Ninilchik led 11-9 after a quarter, 28-18 at the half and 45-29 after three quarters.
For the Wolverines, Jade Robuck led the way with 16 points, while Maddie Cooper had 13 and Rian Ofstad pitched in 12. Also for Ninilchik, Rachael Okonek had nine and Autumn Calabrese added six.
For Kodiak ESS, Teanna Amodo had 18, while Ariana Amodo pitched in 15.
Both the Ninilchik girls and boys also were supposed to host Birchwood Christian on Thursday, but Birchwood could not make it down due to the weather.
Nikolaevsk boys 65, Craig 54
The Warriors started a trip to Southeast by toppling the Panthers in nonconference action.
Nikolaevsk led 17-16 after the first quarter and 29-28 at the half. The game was tied at 44 before Nikolaevsk won the final eight minutes 21-10.
Lukah Kalugin poured in 17 points for a balanced Nikolaevsk attack, while Isaak Fefelov had 14, Kosta Fefelov had 13 and Justin Trail had 12. Zachary Trail added nine points.
Craig girls 51, Nikolaevsk 34
The Warriors started off a trip to Southeast by dropping a nonconference contest to the Panthers.
Nikolaevsk led 14-6 after the first quarter, but Craig led 24-16 at the half. The game was 36-29 after three quarter, but the Panthers pulled away in the fourth.
Elizabeth Fefelov had a huge game for the Warriors, grabbing 21 rebounds and scoring 15 points. Sophia Klaich had 10 boards. Also for Nikolaevsk, Zoya Fefelov had six points, Markiana Yakunin had six points, Hannah Gerasimof had five points and Emilee Gerasimof had two points.
Friday
Redington girls 45, Homer 38
The visiting Huskies notched a Southcentral Conference victory last Friday.
The score was tied at eight after the first period, but Redington led 22-17 at halftime and 36-29 after three quarters.
For Homer, Marina Carroll had 10, Kaylin Anderson had eight, Laura Inama had seven, Kelli Bishop and Rylee Doughty each had four, Sailey Rhoes had three and Hannah Hatfield had two.
Homer boys 60, Redington boys 40
The host Mariners notched a Southcentral Conference victory over the Huskies on Friday.
Homer led 16-8 after a quarter, 31-20 at the half and 43-29 after three quarters.
Clayton Beachy had 13 points to pace Homer, while Jonathan Raymond had nine, River Mann had nine, Michael Munro had six, Eyoab Knapp had six, Ty Etzwiler had five, Parker Lowney had five, Ethan Anderson had four, Josiah Raymond had two and Travis Kuhn had one. Ruben Bond had 18 for Redington.
Saturday
Homer girls 37, Houston 26
The host Mariners nailed down a Southcentral Conference victory over the Hawks last Saturday.
Houston led 14-10 after the first eight minutes and 21-16 at halftime, but Homer won the second half 21-5.
Marina Carroll had nine for Homer, while Rylee Doughty had seven, Sailey Rhodes had six, Kaylin Anderson had six, Tonda Smude had four, Melanie Morris had three and Laura Inama had two.
Homer boys 53, Houston 44
The host Mariners notched a Southcentral Conference victory over the Hawks on Saturday.
Homer led 14-8 after the first quarter, 20-19 at halftime and 35-32 headed into the final eight minutes.
For the Mariners, Clayton Beachy and Eyoab Knapp each had 13, Ethan Anderson had 11, Michael Munns had seven, River Mann had four, Jonathan Raymond had three and Josiah Raymond had two. For Houston, Kyle McLaughlin had 13 and Cody Wyrick had 11.
