Thanks for Scandinavian dinner support
Thank you to the Homer community for your support of the Scandinavian Dinner at Faith Lutheran Church. We sold out of tickets and still found room for more Lutefisk lovers. The smiles on your faces melted my heart as you begged for a plate. My crew of servants is truly amazing.
The Harbor School of Music and Dance performance from so many talented children was truly delightful. Special thanks to McNeil Canyon Meats for mixing the meatballs and Cole’s Market for the cabbage and taters. We had plenty to serve for the Installation dinner the next day too.
As a reminder we will have fresh lefse at the Faith Lutheran Christmas Bazaar on Saturday Nov. 23, from 10 am. to 3 p.m.

Is there an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) in your place of work? We want to know. South Peninsula Hospital’s Emergency Department is leading the way to add Stop the Bleed emergency kits to every AED in our service area. These kits have instructions and supplies critical for responding to life threatening bleeding.

SPH staff were life savers
I would like to thank everyone at South Peninsula Hospital for saving my mother’s life, especially the ER staff who were absolutely stellar. The world does indeed work in mysterious ways.
If you know my mom, Bonnie Boisvert, please share your love with her, as she has shared it with you, Homer, for over 40 years. Thank you. And please thank all those who help and take care of others in this world because without them, the world would not be the beautiful place it is. Let’s all take care of each other out there with love. Thank you.

Fair Share holds open house
A community Open House will be held on Saturday, Nov. 16, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 3756 Lake St. (Belmonte Center). Proponents of The Fair Share Act will be available to discuss how the Fair Share Act ballot initiative will increase the State of Alaska’s share of revenues from the production of oil. There will be information on how the Fair Share Act works and how approval of this act will increase the state’s share of production revenues by approximately $1.1 billion. Initiative Petition Books also will be on hand for signatures. Refreshments will be served.

What about Afghan civilian war dead?
In the Anchorage Daily News news last week was an article of two dead soldiers being memorialized at Joint Base Elmendorf Richardon. What about the killing of innocent people, in their own lands, by our forces? What about those dead people?
We don’t belong in Afghanistan.
Osama bin Laden was a patsy for 9-11 as sure as Lee Harvey Oswald was a patsy for the assasination of JFK.

Another success
I would like to sincerely thank the community for another great Empty Bowl fund raiser for the Homer Community Food Pantry. People purchased 167 hand crafted bowls and 300 lunches.
So to all all the restaurants, bowl makers, soup servers, soup picker uppers, clean up crew, all my friends that come through with desserts and bread, and of course the soup eaters — thank you!

One omission too far
The title of the article in the Nov. 4, 2019, New Yorker magazine was “Annals of Diplomacy, The Swamp,” by Joshua Yaffa. Volodymyr Zelensky, Ukraine’s new president, was elected in April 2019 with 73% of the vote.
Yaffa writes, “Zelensky’s most scrutinized performance to date was a phone call, on July 25th, between him and President Donald Trump,” in which Trump (according to Yaffa) “pressured” Zelensky to investigate Hunter Biden, Joe Biden’s son, “who was on the board of the Ukrainian gas company, Burisma.”
Yaffa omitted that Joe Biden was captured on film boasting to the Council on Foreign Relations that he threatened to withhold a billion dollars in aid to Ukraine unless the Ukrainian leader fired the prosecutor investigating Hunter Biden, “and sonuvabitch, whadda you know, he fired the prosecutor.” That was the real quid pro quo.
Yaffa omitted that Hunter Biden had no experience in energy or natural gas, yet received $50,000/month from Burisma while Joe Biden was Vice President of the United States. Ukraine had good reason to investigate the Biden family’s Ukraine activities.
Yaffa said a “summary of the phone call was released” the day after Nancy Pelosi announced a House impeachment inquiry into Trump. On Sept. 25, 2019. President Trump released the full transcript of his phone call with Zelensky. And Yaffa omitted mention of the full transcript.
You can download the full transcript of the Trump-Zelensky phone call and see (1) President Trump did not “pressure” President Zelensky and (2) there was no quid pro quo.

Warren Miller film was a success
On behalf of the Kachemak Ski Club’s Homer Rope Tow, I would like to express our greatest appreciation for the support we have received from the community. The seventh annual Warren Miller film fundraiser was a huge success with over 200 tickets sold, just about a full house. This fundraiser is a great way to bring together people who love to ski or know someone who loves to ski. The funds raised help us in our mission to make downhill skiing accessible and affordable for beginners to seasoned ski bums. It takes a wonderful community like Homer to keep the Rope Tow turning. This is the 71st year the Kachemak Ski Club has been operational. Now let’s all do the snow dance and hope for a great season.
We would like to give a big shout out to the businesses that donated prizes and auction items: The Homer Theatre for the venue and donations, Homer Vet Clinic, Sasquatch AK Adventures, Ravn Airlines, Alyeska Ski resort, Cycological, Homer’s Jeans, SBS, Homer Saw and Cycle, Cosmic Kitchen, and Kachemak Shellfish Growers Association. All of these donations help tremendously. Thank you for your support.
