Homer’s volleyball team blew through a successful weekend of play on Friday and Saturday, sweeping two Anchorage teams and moving to 3-1 in Southcentral Conference standings.
The team first beat Grace Christian three games to zero on Friday, with set scores of 25-9, 25-12 and 25-11. Then they went on to do the same against Anchorage Christian Schools on Saturday with set scores of 25-13, 25-19 and 25-13.
In the game against ACS, Marina Carroll and Laura Inama led the offense with eight kills each. Carroll had 12 digs and Inama had six. Kelli Bishop racked up six aces, 12 digs, 22 assists and four kills. Kitri Classen helped out on defense with 22 digs.
Head coach Stephanie Carroll said the team did good work over the weekend.
“They really did well executing,” Carroll said. “I was able to get some playing time for some of my younger girls, so that was good.”
Carroll said the team is also reading the court better at this point in the season. Their time playing at the West Spiketacular tournament in Anchorage last weekend really helped with that, she said.
“That just kind of sharpens your skills,” she said.
