Michael V. Morris

Michael V. Morris died on Sept. 7, 2019 at the age of 74 of heart failure.

Born in Dayton, Ohio, to the late Hubert and Evelyn Morris, Michael enjoyed high school football. The love of the game followed through all his life. He enjoyed the Ohio State Buckeyes playing, even on the day he passed.

Like so many young men, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1965 and served his country in Vietnam, receiving an honorable discharge as a Sergeant E5.

Moving to Alaska in the late 1960s, he worked in banking in Anchorage and upon moving to Homer worked for National Bank of Alaska before becoming interested in real estate and becoming the owner/broker of Record of Bay Realty. He enjoyed many different kinds of card games and you could often times find him at the Homer Senior Citizens Center playing a game of hearts, or playing poker on Friday nights with the boys. He was a proud, card carrying member of the notorious Downtown Poker Club.

During his time in Homer Michael was involved in many, many community projects and served on City of Homer boards and commissions.

After retiring from real estate due to health and moving to the warmer climate of Lake Isabella, California, in 2006 with his wife, Patti, he involved himself in many different hobbies, which included his artistic side in water color painting and coin collecting. He was an animal lover who enjoyed rescuing dogs and cats from overburdened shelters and was a supporter of the ASPCA and the Best Friends Animal Society (a no-kill organization for rescued animals).

Survivors included his wife of 20 years, Patti Morris of Lake Isabella, California; ex-wife Amy Morris of Homer, Alaska; sons, Michael P. Morris of Homer, Alaska and Bradford Morris of Carroll, Iowa; step-son Brandon Whalin (Tracy Sherwood) of Homer; grandchildren, Orion Hannon, Elessar, Weston and Robin Whalin all of Homer; and many, many nieces and nephews in Ohio and Alaska.

His sister Carole Cable of Stow, Ohio, and brother Phil Morris of Nevada preceded him in death.

At his request, no services will be held. His ashes will be spread at a later date near Homer, Alaska. Memorial donations may be made to the Best Friends Animal Society of Kanab, Utah, the ASPCA or your local Animal Shelter.
