A couple who celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary might have to live towns apart because South Peninsula Hospital’s Long Term Care facility didn’t have enough space. Evelyn Kobi lived at Long Term Care and Hillard Kobi moved there after recently living at Friendship Terrace’s assisted living apartments. However, there wasn’t permanent space for him, and the state said he might have to move to a Soldotna nursing home.

In a 6-1 vote, the Kenai Peninsula Borough School Board appropriated $16,452 to Homer Community Schools to help keep it going another year. Combined with a $4,548 state grant, that funded half the position of recreation specialist Brooks Comfort-Waldorf. The City of Homer also kicked in $6,600. — From the issue of Aug. 10, 1989

With the opening of king crab season, business at the Alaskan Seafoods cannery picked up. New crews were added for processing king crab and shrimp, and a second shift was added as long as the fishing was good. About 75 people worked at the plant, with 40 to 50 fishing
