Betty Albertus Miller

Longtime Homer resident Betty Albertus Miller, 86, passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at home from complications of strokes.

No services are planned at this time.

Betty was born Jan. 10, 1933 in Brownsville, Oregon. She graduated from high school, got her certificate in cosmetology and a three-year certificate in Christian education.

She moved to Alaska in 1956 and lived in Anchorage for a year before moving to Homer. Betty was a self-employed beautician at the Arctic House of Beauty. She retired in 1980.

Betty and her husband, Ralph, owned the world’s largest antique ornamental hair comb collection, and she was a knowledgeable Lloyd’s of London resource appraiser for antique hair combs. She began collecting combs in the early 1960s.

Betty was a member of Glacierview Baptist Church in Homer. She loved children and teaching Sunday school. She also volunteered with the Homer Winter Carnival and much of the sled dog racing in her early years.

She enjoyed entertaining, cooking, reading, sewing, gardening, canning, sled dog racing and continuing her education in hair design.

Betty was preceded in death by her brother, Larry Clendenen; sister, Shirley Chernoff; an infant sister; and her parents, Bill and Verna Clendenen of Anchor Point.

She is survived by her husband, Ralph E. Miller of Homer; daughters and son-in-law, Sandy K. Miller of Homer, and Cris J. Beachy and husband, Warren of Port Charlotte, Florida; grandson Abe Alborn and wife, Elaina, of Homer; granddaughters, Abi Rios and husband Danny of Homer, and Misti McLay of Port Charlotte, Florida; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Arrangements were by Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.
