Citizens angry at legislators who supported capping and tapping the Alaska Permanent Fund mounted a recall drive against Rep. Gail Phillips, R-Homer, and Sen. John Torgerson, R-Kasilof. The recall petition cites neglect of duty as grounds for a recall.

“This is not a witch hunt,” said recall sponsor Dale Wunderlich of Anchor Point.

Torgerson said he wasn’t worried about the threat. “It’s really hard to recall somebody for an idea,” he said.

Phillips also said she didn’t think the recall had merit, saying the grounds are for lack of fitness, incompetence and corruption and not a difference of opinion.

The Homer Advisory Planning Commission passed a recommendation allowing people to stay in recreational vehicles on private property for up to 60 days. The change had been sought by a Homer couple who wanted to let their parents stay in an RV while visiting for the summer. The change has to be approved by the Homer City Council.
