Wallace Leland “Lee” Hargrove

Longtime Homer resident Wallace Leland “Lee” Hargrove, 82, died on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2019.

He passed away peacefully with his family by his side, the family wrote.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Homer. His ashes will be scattered at his favorite hunting stand.

Lee was born Oct. 26, 1936 in Waldport, Oregon. He worked in the lumber industry in Oregon and Alaska throughout his life in all capacities. He was also a commercial fisherman in Crescent City, California, fishing for salmon during the 1970s. He had lived in Haines, Alaska in 1969, later returning to Homer in July 1985. Lee also worked in the auto body industry in Oregon and Alaska from the 1960s until retiring in 2008 from Highland Auto Body.

Lee was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses and enjoyed fishing, hunting, carpentry, being a jack of all trades, the outdoors, camping and being on the sea waters.

His family wrote, “Lee was a loving, kindhearted, caring and supportive spouse, father, and friend. As a business owner, he often would help repair a car generously when the funds were low with just a thank you.

“He was one of 11 children who was raised on a farm where hard work is a way of life, which became a lifestyle choice of providing honest, fair work ethic in everything he did.

“Lee was an avid hunter and fisherman and shared this joy with his family and friends.

“Lee was a genuine soul, not a perfect soul, but one who truly tried. He was kind, gentle, had an awesome sense of humor and sense of play. He was respectful and generous to a fault and he loved his family and friends with every fiber of his being.

“As one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Lee firmly believed John 3:16, that God loves us so much he gave his own Son to buy us the chance for a real relationship with Him and a hope of the Earthly paradise and eternal life Adam and Eve lost. He encouraged all in attendance by his presence at gatherings focused on the God he worshipped.”

Lee is survived his wife, Sharon Hargrove of Homer; son and daughter-in-law, Leland A. and Nubia Hargrove of Homer; daughter and son-in-law, Cyndi L. and Patrick Keifer of Bonners Ferry, Idaho; daughter, Lori S. Hargrove of Kona, Hawaii; and brother and sister-in-law, Keith and Pat Hargrove of Venita, Oregon.
