Patrick Lee Sharp

Patrick Lee Sharp died on Dec. 9, 2018 in Vancouver, Washington.

He peacefully went home to be with the Lord, his family wrote. He is survived by his twin sister, Peggy, and her husband Doug Larson. Both Doug and Peggy were by his side in Vancouver, where he has lived the past four years.

Pat was born Sept. 10, 1955 in Anchorage, Alaska to Clinton E. Sharp (Tex) and Marge Sharp.

As a young boy in Homer, Alaska, Pat loved to ride his bike with friends, Robby, Chris and Kenny. He was a kind brother and took his time to teach his sister how to ride her bike. He loved to play cards and board games.

He loved to play baseball and kick the can with all the neighborhood friends late into the endless Alaskan summer nights. He also loved to go fishing at the end of the Homer Spit, spending hours on the docks, until he and his sister would make the long walk back to town. Pat and Peggy lived behind the restaurant and bar that their parents established in Homer: the Waterfront Bar and Grill, which is now known as AJ’s Steakhouse. At the time, beside the restaurant was a bowling alley, owned by Jack and Ethel Scott. Pat became a very good bowler and spent many hours there in his youth. Peggy remembers him bowling a 300 before he was a freshman in high school. He also loved to collect coins.

In high school, Pat played the trumpet and also played basketball, but his passion and the majority of his time was spent in pottery class with Mr. Al Tennant. After graduating in 1973, he moved to Anchorage to attend college and in 1974 he became Mr. Tenant’s teaching assistant.

Just like his mom who was a chef and restauranteur, Pat took to cooking. He had a natural ability to see the joy he brought to people with his creativity. Many times he would come to his sister’s aid and cook supper for her and her family. Working alongside his mom Marge led him into a career as a chef. Pat had many adventures, traveling to different parts of the United States as a chef and cook. Some of his most notable and memorable stops as a chef included jobs in Montana, Louisiana and of course his home state of Alaska, where he served as a chef in many lodges that cater to hunting, fishing and sightseeing tourists.

In 2014 he left his beloved Alaska and moved to Vancouver, Washington to be close to his sister Peggy because of health reasons.

Pat is preceded in death by his father, Clinton E Sharp (Tex); his brother, Mike; and his mother, Marge Sharp.

A memorial service is being planned for this summer.
