The First Friday scene expands out East End Road with shows at new venues The Shop: Kachemak Bay Art Space and Bear Creek Winery.
Art lovers won’t have to worry about fitting in visits during the usual 5-7 p.m. Friday opening receptions. Bear Creek Winery on Bear Creek Drive shows Bill Fry’s sculptures during its regular business hours from noon to 6 p.m. At The Shop, located on Bear Creek Court off Bear Creek Drive, the gallery holds an after-hours reception from 7-9 p.m. This is the second First Friday opening for The Shop, featuring artist Joe Carr.
Literary artists can celebrate works in the written word for the 40th anniversary celebration at the Homer Bookstore. The store extends its regular business hours from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday.
The Homer Council on the Arts and Ptarmigan Arts both hold group shows. At HCOA it’s “Fun with 5×7,” a collection of works all done in the 5-inch-by-7-inch format. Ptarmigan Arts examines the theme of “Tubes,” and the many ways the idea can be examined in media from clay to photography. New to the Homer art scene is a show by sculptor Jackie McGhan, showing at the Fireweed Gallery. Homer artist Jen DePesa returns to Grace Ridge Brewery for a new show of her watercolor and oil paintings.
Don’t miss the enchanting fused glass work of Homer artist Nancy Wise at the Art Shop Gallery.
