Longtime Homer resident Robert Roland Wambach Jr., 66, known to some as “Bob” or “Dick,” died Monday, Oct. 8, 2018 at home.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, 2018 at Homer Elks Lodge in Homer. Additional services will be held in Minnesota, with the time and date to be announced.
Bob was born Oct. 11, 1951 in Moorhead, Minnesota. He moved from Georgetown, Minnesota, near Moorhead, in 1985 and lived in Anchor Point until moving to Homer in 1989. He was a jack of all trades and held a variety of jobs over the years, from big game hunting guide, owning and operating his own fishing charter (CB3 Charters), commercial fisherman, running a sawmill business, to being a bear guard for an exploration crew and more. Recently, he was the facility manager for SVT Health and Wellness.
Bob was also involved in Homer Bee Keepers and taught an SVT Fishing Class. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, beekeeping, wood working and gold mining.
His family wrote, “Dad loved the great outdoors. He found peace in observing wildlife and the beauty in nature. He was a skilled fisherman, hunter and beekeeper because of his understanding of the natural world. He loved his dogs, especially his chocolate lab, Nelli. Dad enjoyed spending time with his four grandchildren and sharing his love for the outdoors. Dad gave tirelessly to those in need. He was dedicated and hardworking in every job, business or task he faced. Dad was also honest and compassionate and loved his family.”
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Diane Wambach, and son, Gregory Wambach.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Michael Illg; daughter, Jennifer Wambach; grandchildren, Ethan Drake, Madilyn Illg, Carter Drake and Katelynn Drake, all of Homer; his parents, Robert and Bernadine Wambach, Sr., of Georgetown, Minnesota; sisters and brothers-in-law, Teresa and Bill Rose of Perham, Minnesota, Patty and Kevin Hold of Henning, Minnesota, Nancy Wambach and Marc St. Louis of Moorhead, Minnesota, and Peggy and Aaron Larson of Wadena, Minnesota; brothers and sisters-in-law, David Wambach of Georgetown, Minnesota, Larry and Pam Wambach of Kalispell, Montana, Michael and Mary Wambach of Webster, South Dakota, Gary and Carol Wambach of Georgetown, Minnesota, and Mark and Ann Wambach of Ottertail, Minnesota; and 24 nieces and nephews.
Arrangements were by Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.
